Mike,
I'll be on the scheduled flight from JoBurg to Bazaruto so I can't really send other passengers into town while I sort my visa.
This is a difficult one - risk upsetting a plane load of passengers by keeping them waiting or pay $80 each for a visa (in London) rather than $25 at Vilanculos.
Any advice?

You really won't delay anyone. It is a formality and your passport will be processed at the same time as all of the others.
To set your mind at rest email Margie who is a consultant and long-time resident of Vilankulo: margie@teledata.mz

Hi Mike
My wife is on a UK passport and we are off to Moz in a few weeks - I rang a travel crowd in joburg and was informed the Visa for her would be R750, would it be possible and cheaper (US$25) to get it at the Lebombo/Komatipoort border?
Thanks Peter |

Yes, if visas are issued at any of the consulates in South Africa, you will pay an amount that is reciprocal to what Mozambicans are expected to pay when visiting your country. But if getting your visa on arrival at land or air border then YES, the charge is US$25 not matter which country you come from. Of course most SADC (SA, Tanz etc) passport holders no longer need visas for Moz.

Hi Mike, I am travelling to Moz on NZ passports very soon with my 9 year old son and expecting to enter from SA and stay with a friend in Maputo and from there do trips back to kruger, swaziland etc. Do you know how much and how much time I will need to get a multientry visa - I understand the single entry cost in Jo'burg. Is it still only 10 days entry each time you arrive for a multientry . And if I dont get a multientry will they allow me to just pay for a single entr each time I enter for a few time because it sounds as if it might still be cheaper to do that anyway if Jo'burg is so much more expensive - Id be able to pay for a few single entries for the same cost as Jo'burg charge wouldnt I?? . Is it the same cost for visas for an adult as a child? thanks MIke |

I would start by getting a double entry visa (think charge is double that of single, i.e R750 (single) on Oz passport) in Joburg as for the multiple entry you may need a letter of intro from a Moz business. Carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of passport, just in cast. In by 10 out by 3 same day.
Still 10 each entry on a multiple entry visa. You can get a new visa on each entry for ZAR172 (or is it R185 now?), but you must stay at least one night out of Moz and then return.
Costs are same for children.

Hi
There is no border post at Kanyemba. Over the Zambezi from Kanyemba there is the Luangwa (Feira) / Zumbo border. Google Chawalo Lodge which is on the Zambezi in Moz near Kanyemba.

Hi,
Is it still possible to get visa at Beira airport (EU citizens)? We'll arrive there with a flight from Johannesburg.
Thank you for the information! |

I heard the rumours but unfortunately I CAN confirm that, at borders and airports, $85 is the new price for a 30 day single entry tourist visa (Visto fronteira), the only type of visa issued on arrival (other types from consulates). This came into effect, unannounced on July 06. The previous price at borders and airports was US$25.
Senhor Makwakwa of the Consular section of the Mozambican Embassy in Pretoria 012 401 0300 confirmed this and apologised for any inconvenience to visitors to Mozambique.
This follows on the drastic increase (in 2006) of visa prices when issued at Moz consulates in South Africa and around the World. The rationale then was that, whatever your country charges a Mozambican for a visa, Mozambique would charge a reciprocal rate.
For some passport holders (UK for example), the charge for a visa at a Moz consulate in South Africa since 2006 has been R750 (or about $100), so for many travellers $85 may still be cheaper.
Wish I knew who advises governments regarding such decisions. All the research shows that a far bigger percentage of what so-called 'budget' travellers spend actually stays in the country, and more jobs are created than by the high-end jet-setters who won't notice the increase.

We're Austrian passport holders staying in SA at the end of August and flying into Pemba in September. Are visas still easily available there after the price increase from July?
Thanks for answers - I am so glad I finally found this forum! |

Yes visas available as usual - just the price has increased to $85 (second call to the Pretoria Moz Embassy and I was told $82 - so see which is correct when you arrive).
