We drove from Maputo to Vilanculos a couple of years back and although the road was generally very good, there was one stretch of about 30km after Maxixe which was full of enormous potholes. We had a 4x4, so managed ok, but now my brother in law wants to drive up there with a normal car and I am trying to find out if that part of the route has been fixed in the meantime. Can you help?
Up to Xai-Xai the road is very good, but for the next 70km or so very bad potholes - not advisable in normal car. Also after Massinga there is another 50km of very bad holes. The road is being resurfaced so could be some improvement but for the next few months at least I would highly recommend a high-clearance vehicle (not necesarrily a 4x4).
Potholes - are they still there?
