Cyclone Giovanna Now No Threat.

Giovanna_Fri_17_Feb

Above map from:http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/si201212.html

http://metzone.weathersa.co.za/images/articles/ma_sy.gif? Shows Giovanna is now a moderate tropical storm moving east of the southern tip of Madagascar.  So you can put away the umbrellas and truckloads of relief supplies, for now.

What will Giovanna do now?

Giovanna_track_to_20_Feb

The above images indicates that by February 20, after bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the coastline, Giovanna is expected to dissipate in the Mozambique Channel east of Xai-Xai

http://metzone.weathersa.co.za/images/articles/ma_sy.gif? Cyclone Giovanna is now "Overland Depression - Ex Giovanna" which means that Madagascar has taken the sting out of it's tail, for now anyway.

However as Giovanna moves over the warm waters of the Mozambican Channel, she MAY rejuvenate and bring high winds and heavy rainfall to southern Mozambique's coastline.  My educated guess is that areas south of Inhambane to Maputo will be affected.   Noted that Giovanna is NOT expected to regains Cyclone strength and should now be termed a tropical storm.

According to www.tropicalstormrisk.com Cyclone Giovanna MAY (the computer models don't predict this far ahead with much certainty) arrive at the southern Mozambican coastline in about 120hrs (5 days) from now, i.e approximately Wednesday Feb 17, 2012.
