"After the Thursday meeting, the Renamo delegation stressed, according to a report in Friday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Mediafax”, that it was “showing the world that Renamo does not want war, but only a democratic political game where everybody has the same opportunities”.
WARNING:
Thurs 4 April, 2013:
Renamo kills 4 Policemen in Muxungue
Sat April 6: Near Muxungue:
Fuel tanker-truck and Intercape passenger bus attacked, 3 dead in the tanker.
Note firstly that currently none of Mozambique's tourist areas have been affected in any way. This advisory only affects road traffic on Mozambique's main road (EN.1) travelling between Vila Save (Save bridge), 200km north of Vilanculos, and Inchope (junction EN.6 Beira - Zimbabwe road).
Beware bullets have been flying at Muxungue between Inchope and Vila Save on the EN.1. Seems that the Moz police are cracking down on armed Renamo bandits in Gondola (between Chimoio and Inchope) and at Muxungue (154km south of Inchope and108km north of the Save river).
Muxungue is currently deserted but the police are letting road traffic through but at the risk of being shot at (it seems). This has been brewing for months, if not years. If you have plans to head south towards Vilanculos, Inhambane, Maputo, I would delay until the situation is controlled (or not). Of course this warning is also applicable to those heading north of Inhassoro to Save bridge and northwards on the EN.1
