Given the Renamo - government situation, will the authorities allow me to cycle from southern Mozambique (starting at the Lebombo border post) to Pemba?

Hi Bert

The good news, for now, is that Renamo have suspended their attacks and so, since mid december the convoys have no longer been running. Should the convoys be reinstated the soldiers and police will probably block you from continuing. From personal experience of a similar situation, I would try to simply pedal past the checkpoint and hope for the best, or tell the guards you are just going across the bridge or a short distance down the road. You will have to play it the way you find it.

Great trip.

Hi Mike,I went with my Motorcycle to Chimoio in November and drove past the check point at Rio Save, without any problems,
But was stop at the Military camp just before the steel structure bridge at the Repembe river, they let me sit there for hours till the convoy arrived from Rio Save. But with the suspension of military convoys I dont for see a problem,if reinstated just put your bicycle on a truck at Rio Save and catch a lift to Muxungue, will probably cost you a few Metz.

Regards

Johan

Hi Johan

thanks for the advice. Yes if the convoys are reinstated there will be complications, but if Bert is the type of cyclist that I am, putting the bicycle on a truck is not an option - cycling the entire route is the only way to go. So negotiating skills and some deviations may be necessary.

Mike.
