Hi Fernando and welcome to Mozguide!

Yes I have been to the Quirimbas a few times, but most recently in 2011. The biggest problem is travelling from Pemba to Ibo as the plane is very expensive and using local transport can be slow and tough.

So the best advice I can give is to look up Baobibo on Google and FaceBook and ask Lucie for her expert advice. www.facebook.com/BaobiboCasaDeHospedes/?fref=ts

Go well

Hello Fernando,

The archipelago is definitely worth a long visit and I would recommend to come and settle on the island of Ibo (lots of accommodation of all prices/styles and restaurants - local or intl) for AL LEAST a week and do the exploration from here. In addition to Ibo (where many activites are on offer: historical tour, kayak, treks, or bicycle tours, diving or bird watching) you can quite easily explore the following islands, with optional overstay : Quirimba (guesthouse and local campsite), Matemo (Baobibo private camp and local campsite), Rolas (no accommodation but wild camping allowed but I do not recommend it for its lack of shade and private space). And much snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, wreck, sandbank, etc...

For the transport up, as Mike said, you have private little planes from Pemba (20 minutes), public transport (only for serious backpackers, especially in rainy season), or the one I recommend: private transport (4x4 with driver + private boat) that takes you between 4 to 5 hours top, depending on the road conditions. Most hotels organise the transport for their guests, baobibo is charging 12'500 Mts per trip all included for up to 4 people.

Hope this helps. You can contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for reservation
