Hi Mike,

W'll be traveling up to Gorongosa PN and back south again.
Our plan is to take the detour over Maribane Forest.

Any advise is welcome:

Best regards

Marc

Hi

Chimoio - Sussendenga - Dombe - Espungabera always been in good condition but currently being upgraded to tarmac. Espungabera to Machaze (chitobe) OK with some bad corrugations. Then cross Save (low water season) to Massangena and carry on south or go Machaze (Chitobe) to main road and carry on south.

Ndzou camp is really nice - got this message from the Director:
Good to hear from you - hope business is good. NDZOU Camp is fully
operational (though right now we've got problems on our water supply
because the solar pump broke!). I'm attaching the 2011 summary 2-pager,
but in brief:

1. Accommodation: The camp has:
4 Rondavels, each with twin beds that can be made as a double. Price:
1,550Mt/room for residents; 2,100Mt for non-residents. Includes light
breakfast
1 3-bedroom (6 bed) house, self-catering, two bathrooms
2 'fixed tents' - these are family-style portable tents made permanent
by pitching them on a solid base under a thatch roof, with a private
bathroom at the back. Price for these will go up slightly because they
now have electricity. Likely to be 1,200Mt for residents. 1,500 for
non-residents
Camping (serviced by ablution block, cooking area, fire pit)

2. Services

There is a restaurant and bar offering a fair range of standard dishes
with specials. The local staff speak Portuguese and the Manager speaks
fluent English. The cook, who serves as stand-in Manager when Nelson
(Manager) is away, is learning English.

3. Activities

Elephant tracking is a key attraction, but the forest in general is full
of interest and we're currently working with the community to open three
new trails of different lengths. There will also be numbered trees
(marking species) and a greatly expanded information/learning centre.
Inside the camp's grounds we have a small trail and there are some basic
activities for children and families (volleyball net, dart board, games)

All the best

Andrew
